With a large variety of guest rooms and over 18,000 square feet of meeting space, Four Points by Sheraton London is the ideal place to stay for both business or leisure. Their unique location puts visitors within minutes of the areas best golf, dining, shopping, wineries, and more.

In recent years Four Points went through a 3 year renovation that started in 2012, which gives a welcoming contemporary feel that flows throughout the entire property. With 180 guest rooms the property boasts multiple conference spaces for larger or more intimate events. All employees aim daily to portray the Four Points core values, “Honest, Uncomplicated & Comfort” to their guests.

A disability does not own who you are. It is one part of a whole person and if they are the right person for the job that’s truly what matters.

On Tuesday January 26, 2016 we spoke with Tara Creaser, Human Resources and Hotel Accountant for Four Points by Sheraton London during our monthly Tuesdays at Ten discussion on Twitter. This regular event features successful area businesses that hire and retain persons with disabilities based on the philosophy of ability first in the workplace.

We were also pleased to welcome back Kathryn Tull, Employment Specialist with LEADS Employment Services to our conversation. As Four Points by Sheraton London’s Partner in Employment, Kathryn asissts the hotel to find qualified candidates. She also provides other resources to the employer at no cost, such as training and onsite job coaching.

Four Points by Sheraton London: Four Points by Sheraton Hotel & Suites London is approaching 20 years in business! #Tuesat10

Ability First: Congratulations on 20 strong years in #LdnOnt! How many employees does @FourPointsLDN have? #Tuesat10

Four Points by Sheraton London: With approximately 100 active staff, everyone aims daily to portray our core values to our guests. The Franchise Owner & GM lead by example & show their passion for the business on a daily basis. Hiring staff that share this passion is what sets the hotel apart. #Tuesat10

Ability First: Why did you decide to hire someone with a #disability at @FourPointsLDN? #Tuesat10

Four Points by Sheraton London: I wouldn't say it was decided to hire someone with a #disability; it’s case of hiring person with the right skill set for any given job. #Tuesat10

Ability First: You’re absolutely right. Can you elaborate? #Tuesat10

Four Points by Sheraton London: A disability does not make a person a better or worse candidate for a position; if they are the right fit you find a way to work with someone so they can do the job. #Tuesat10

Ability First: How did you go about finding the right person(s) for the job at @FourPointsLDN? #Tuesat10

Four Points by Sheraton London: When a position needs to be filled we will post on multiple sites & employment services to get the word out. Once candidates apply & the qualifications seem adequate, interviews are set up with the department managers. At this point it’s about who sets themselves apart by portraying the right attitude and willingness to take on a new and hopefully long term future with our Four Points family! #Tuesat10

Ability First: What has your experience working with persons with #disabilities been like? #Tuesat10

Four Points by Sheraton London: For example, we had a woman who was legally blind in one eye work in our Banquets department as a Server. I don’t believe it came to our attention until the end of our hiring process and it was never considered something that would stop us from hiring her. #Tuesat10

Ability First: How did this employee work out for you? #Tuesat10

Four Points by Sheraton London: She proved that her #disability never changed that fact that she was the right person for the job. #Tuesat10

Ability First: How has @LEADSEmployment worked with you to successfully hire and retain persons with #disabilities? #Tuesat10

Four Points by Sheraton London: We communicate our employment opportunities to @LEADSEmployment and they have the opportunity to match applicants they have that have the right skills and aptitude for that position. @LEADSEmployment does followup with us & applicant to ensure successful transition, which is very helpful. #Tuesat10

Ability First: And in turn, how has @FourPointsLDN worked with @LEADSEmployment to ensure success Kathryn? #Tuesat10

LEADS Employment Services

LEADS Employment Services: @FourPointsLDN has always been open to discussion with @LEADSEmployment on positions and contacting LEADS when recruiting. @FourPointsLDN provides accommodations such as hands on training, pairing the employee with a staff mentor, who would advise areas to work and concentrate on to be successful in the role. @FourPointsLDN is a leader in creating a diverse workforce and community. #Tuesat10

Ability First: @FourPointsLDN What is your advice for other employers who may be thinking adding employees with #disabilities to their team? #Tuesat10

Four Points by Sheraton London: That a #disability does not own who you are. It is one part of a whole person and if they are the right person for the job that’s truly what matters. #Tuesat10

Ability First: Please finish this sentence, “I hire for Ability First because...” #Tuesat10
